Get babysitting clients

Your first babysitting customers are probably closer than you think

The safest and easiest first clients usually come through people the sitter and family already know. The goal is not maximum reach. The goal is a small trusted network that can create referrals.

Build the list

Create a warm network of ten families

Sit down with a parent and write ten names or households that are already connected to your family.

  • Neighbours you know
  • Extended family
  • Family friends
  • Parents from sports, clubs or community groups
  • Teachers or trusted adults who may know local families

Make the first ask

Offer a specific service instead of announcing “I babysit”

A specific offer is easier to understand. For example, evening babysitting on Friday and Saturday or after school care for a defined age range.

Turn one job into two

Ask for a referral only after a good experience

After a successful booking, ask whether the family knows one other family they would feel comfortable introducing. A warm introduction is more valuable than posting the sitter publicly to hundreds of strangers.

Keep the good families

Repeat bookings are the easiest growth channel

Reliability, clear communication and showing up prepared make a family more likely to book again. The business gets easier when a small group of families already trusts the sitter.

  • Confirm the booking in advance.
  • Arrive on time.
  • Follow the agreed routine.
  • Send the parent a clear update when appropriate.
  • Ask whether they would like to book another date before the need becomes urgent.
